Terms of service

Plain terms for a tool that does one job carefully.

Visitor Levy App helps you calculate, check and record your visitor levy. It does not file on your behalf. The property owner or operator remains legally responsible for the accuracy of the figures and for submitting the return on time. Always check the figures against your own records before you file.

What Visitor Levy App does

Visitor Levy App is a calculation and record-keeping tool for the Scottish Visitor Levy. It computes levy figures from data you supply, shows the working, flags likely errors and produces exports you can use when filing.

What Visitor Levy App does not do

Visitor Levy App does not file returns and does not move money on your behalf. We do not submit anything to any council, we do not act as your agent for tax purposes, and we do not collect or remit the levy. Every submission is made by you, through the council's own process.

Nothing in the product or on this site is legal, tax or accounting advice. Where your circumstances are unusual, take professional advice or ask your council.

Your responsibilities

  • The property owner or operator remains legally responsible for the accuracy of every return and for submitting it on time.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the data you enter or import, including separating accommodation charges from extras.
  • You must review the calculated figures before relying on them.
  • You must retain your own underlying booking records for the period your council requires. Because booking data is held only in your browser, clearing your browser storage will remove it — keep your own copies.
  • Where an agent prepares figures, legal liability still sits with the owner or operator of the property.

Accounts and acceptable use

You must provide accurate account details, keep your credentials secure, and not attempt to access other users' data or disrupt the service. We may suspend accounts used unlawfully.

Billing

One property is free indefinitely. Paid plans are billed monthly, quarterly or annually in advance through Stripe, at the rates published on the pricing page. New multi-property accounts get one full quarter free on a paid plan. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time; changes take effect from the next billing period and we do not refund part-periods unless required by law.

Availability and liability

We work to keep the service available and correct, but we provide it without warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for penalties, interest or other losses arising from returns you file, whether or not those returns were prepared using Visitor Levy App. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; material changes are notified by email. These terms are governed by Scots law and subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
